Shadow of the Turning is a traveling exhibit featuring an exciting new body of work by Binh Pho blending the mythic worlds of fairy tale, fantasy, adventure and science fiction. Pho, known for an expansive approach to work in wood and glass, features a highly personal iconography, with imagery that relates to Asian culture and the natural world. The story of his journey from an idyllic childhood in Vietnam to his escape to the United States in 1979 is profoundly illustrated in Pho's sculptures. Shadow of the Turning focuses on art, philosophy and storytelling, yet is an entirely fictional story, blending the mythic worlds of fairy tale, fantasy, romance and adventure.

Brookgreen Gardens' two indoor exhibits will be on display daily Friday November 28 - Sunday, January 4, 2015 and are free with garden admission. One of the joys of the holiday season is seeing how the horticulture and sculpture departments transform the two galleries in the Rainey Sculpture Pavilion. Their imaginations, creativity, and hours of work help make the season bright. Presented by the Sculpture Department our holiday exhibit, Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus, features paintings by Tom Browning, the world's premier Santa Claus artist. In addition to his Santa art, Tom Browning is a renowned painter of western landscapes and his works are highly acclaimed throughout the United States. Brookgreen's electric model train village, including Lionel and American Flyer, has grown significantly since last year, both indoors and outdoors. It returns with tributes to Hershey, PA, and to Georgetown's historic Front Street, plus an enhanced Erector Set display and a winter carnival with hundreds of moving parts. If you don't believe in Santa Claus, you will after you tour this special exhibit. In Signs of the Season in Flora and Fauna exhibition, the Horticulture Department uses natural materials and plants to create a fantasy forest scene complete with a holiday feast for the animals as the centerpiece. The fantasy forest continues outside the window of the gallery to create the illusion of bringing the outdoors - indoors. You will be surrounded with plants from Brookgreen and see how the beauty of nature can be found in the smallest details. From moss growing on a log to the delicate buds on the beech trees, the staff and volunteers display a beautiful combination of natural art along with selected pieces of sculpture from our collection. The exhibits are free with garden admission and included in admission for Nights of a Thousand Candles.

The Carolina Opry Christmas Special, "The Christmas Show of the South," presents its 29th season of awe-inspiring holiday performances and announces a season-long campaign for The Children's Miracle Network. Owner, producer, and entertainer Calvin Gilmore, has worked for months to create an unforgettable holiday experience, with his usual signature flair for production. As always, the 2014 Christmas show brings stunning changes, beautifully blended with time-honored tradition to create a family experience that is second to none. New talent will mingle with acclaimed rotating artists and long-standing Opry favorites. Sneak previews hail it as the best of the best and Gilmore says simply, "I can't tell you how proud I am to present this Christmas Show. It has a proud tradition to uphold and this year's production is so good-it's kind of like the angel on top of the tree." In addition to a holiday brass section, there are several new vocalists in store. Bibis Ellison, a new powerhouse vocalist (and already a crowd favorite) makes her Christmas Special debut. Rocky Fretz, original Carolina Opry cast member and these days a fixture on the international scene, returns this holiday season. Vocalist Colton Cason is back for his second season with his smooth as silk renditions of crooner classics. "All That," stars of NBC's America's Got Talent, will offer all-new dance material to heat up a cold winter evening-and some big surprises. All of these are joined by an award-winning cast of over 35 including Calvin Gilmore, Rita Gumm, Christie Templeton, Brad Long, Tangena Church, Kym "Bogie" Shurbutt, Eric Gumm, Gary Baker, Trent Wideman, Gary Brown, Martha Brown, Kevin Hughes, Jeff Simmons, Kevin White, Steve Wilkerson, The Carolina Opry Dancers-and a real horse-drawn sleigh and real snow! Kicking off along with the 29th season is an unprecedented campaign to raise $10,000 for the local Children's Miracle Network. Over the course of the Christmas season Gilmore has arranged several opportunities for patrons to give to local children in need of medical care - including Santa Landing with balloon rides, paper balloon decorations in theater, and two dedicated performances with $5 of each ticket sale going straight to The Children's Miracle Network. "I have grandchildren that mean the world to me. In this season of giving, those of us here at Gilmore Entertainment decided to make our presence count for more. We chose the Children's Miracle Network for the wonderful work that they do to see that these children get the medical attention that they need and deserve." Gilmore's goal is $10,000 but he is guaranteeing to donate at least $5,000 to the charity.
